Director’s Message

Lucy Rooth, Executive DirectorLucy Rooth

Executive Director

Over 52 million Americans live with a disability.  At any moment, the quality of  life can change because of an accident, war, disease or the natual aging process. To lessen this impact and create a better quality of life, we need more barrier free living choices. Nursing homes are not the answer.  Universal design building standards and one scattered site accessible home development in every neighborhood every year is the goal of Accessible Dreams. It takes focus on this issue and that is what Accessible Dreams is all about.

Barriers to moving throughout a home dramatically impact the quality of life for persons with disabilities and increase health care costs. To remove barriers, increase home choice, and move people out of high cost nursing homes, we  need to provide affordable options for modifying existing homes for accessibility and for building new homes that are accessible.  We need to create more home choices for people with disabilities so that they can live independently close to their family, friends, support services and place of employment.

Accessible Dreams is a member of the Tri-County Patriots for Independent Living (TRIPIL) family of non-profit corportions. I am very grateful for their support and leadership. TRIPIL understand the importance of an accessible home to the well being of a person with a disability.  Together we hope to make an impact on the number of persons living well with a disability by increasing the numbers of accessible homes being built each year.

I would like to introduce the team that will work with you to find, modify or build a home that fits your needs and budget. Duane, Cindy and Rick are the faces and personalities that you will talk to daily.  I am very thankful for their passionate committment to achieve our goals and I know you will find them dedicated to your service.

Sincerely,

Lucy Rooth,
Executive Director
